Are Men’s Testosterone Levels Dropping in America?

Believe it or not, there are actually lots of data and research out there which seems to indicate that Men’s testosterone levels in the US are in fact, steadily decreasing.  No, this isn’t just the ramblings of some conspiracy theorists or the assertions of some whacked-out new age “doctor”, studies have been done and white papers published which demonstrate the phenomenon is indeed a real thing.  Naturally, the big question is why?  For that, we don’t really have a clear cut answer, of course. Ready for more quality health information about this subject? Read on!

All one has to do is perform a cursory search to find articles like this one published through endocrine.org (and performed by New England Research Institutes).  The conclusion they reach in their study doesn’t leave much to the imagination:

“These results indicate that recent years have seen a substantial, and as yet unrecognized, age-independent population-level decrease in T in American men, potentially attributable to birth cohort differences or to health or environmental effects not captured in observed data.”

The most obvious place to lay blame is on aging.  However, when you consider featured research like this, which comes courtesy of ScienceDaily.com (again featuring research from the endocrine society), such notions could be ruled out:

“A new study finds that a drop in testosterone levels over time is more likely to result from a man’s behavioral and health changes than by aging.”

Believe it or not, it appears that all of the collective factors relating to modern life are what’s actually taking a toll on men’s hormone levels.  In other words, it would seem that over a relatively short period of time (decades really) we’re seeing some type of mass population reaction on a scale many might find hard to believe.

So, what does this mean, anyway?  Are all men going to lose their swagger and strut?  Will this transform society altogether, perhaps even making it a less violent place?  No one really knows for sure, but the short term effects seem to indicate that for many US men additional treatments might be required to restore healthy functionality.

Likewise, there are also many observed (and unobserved) affects stemming from everyday products, like bisphenol-A.   According to this piece which was published in the Huffington Post, a study out of China determined that:  “Chronic exposure to the chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) may lower testosterone levels in men.”   From there it’s easy to imagine how many seemingly ordinary household items might be harboring dangerous chemicals that are covertly attacking human health.  Of course, the real questions are – who put them in there, and was it intentional?
