When it comes to the subject of weight and how best to lose some, Doctor Memhet Oz, a Cardiothoracic surgeon and professor at Columbia University, knows quite a lot. He gives advice on what to eat, when to eat it, and even how to afford it apparently because fresh healthy food is expensive in the USA because of low supply. That is not all; he goes on to offer guidance to those who manage to lose the weight on how best to maintain their new physical appearance.

Dr. Oz’s guidelines are not just beliefs they are backed by science. He has a full time medical unit working for his show, including himself, researching on the best and most natural ways to lose weight. His success, while still being measured through the testimonies of the people who have benefited from his advice, can also be shown by nomination for awards, like the GLAAD media award, though based on an episode he held about intersex.

He has not however escaped criticism. He has been criticized in the past for inviting controversial figures as guests on his talk show, bringing doubt to the validity of their advice and thus his reputation. That is not all; he has come under heavy criticism for promoting the Garcinia Cambogia, a fruit found in India and Southeast Asia, as an effective approach to help lose weight. The critics claim that tests on the effectiveness of the fruit were only carried out on animals, and that the few carried out on people gave bad results. Dr. Oz’s promotion of the fruit saw a hike in products made from ingredients from the fruit that were said it help in the fight against excess weight. It could be wrong and as such affect the consumers negatively.
